Sponge - Filling that fits your body shape

2023-06-09

What is sponge?

Sponges are porous, elastic, and absorbent materials, usually consisting of many small pores.

Types of sponges

Sponges are usually divided into ordinary sponges, crushed sponges, memory foam and shredded memory foam.

Although sponge and memory foam are both sponge fillings, they also have their own unique characteristics.

  • Sponge

Sponge is also called polyurethane foam material. Our commonly used sponges are made of wood cellulose fibers or foamed plastic polymers.

Sponge has a porous honeycomb structure, so it has good softness and water absorption.

    • Memory foam

Memory foam, also known as slow rebound sponge, is also a type of sponge. This kind of sponge is composed of open-structured molecules that can move under the influence of external forces and distribute the forces to fit the entire contact surface.
In addition to the basic properties of sponge, memory foam also has the characteristics of dispersing pressure and providing high comfort.

    Density of sponge

The density of sponge is generally represented by D.

D=kg/m³. For example: 25D means that each cubic sponge weighs 25kg.

    Ordinary sponge: 15D-30D
    Memory foam: 35D-45D

The larger the D number, the greater the density.

Is the sponge harder with higher density? Generally speaking, the hardness and softness of sponges have little to do with density. The softness and hardness can be changed mainly by adjusting the formula. Sponges with the same density can be made into different softness and hardness.

Application of sponges in home textile products

In home textile products, sponges are generally used to fill pillows, throw pillows, mattresses, sofa, reading pillows and maternity pillows.

When choosing a sponge-filled product, pay attention to whether the product can fit or support the inside of the knees, waist, back and neck well. Only by conforming to the curves of the human body and bringing the body's pressure infinitely close to zero during sleep can the effect of healthy sleep be improved.
